Cashmere Circle - preserving artisan skills and creating jobs as part of its circular mission.

Cashmere Circle - preserving artisan skills and creating jobs as part of its circular mission. - Cashmere Circle

We are witnessing a shift in the fashion industry, with circularity becoming a major focus of fashion brands with an emphasis on mending and recycling. Niche brand, Cashmere Circle is one such company at the forefront of this important movement towards increased sustainability in the fashion and luxury sector.

Runner-up in the fashion category of Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2023, their goal is to revive, repair and recycle cashmere whilst at the same time preserving these valuable skills and creating textile jobs.

Founded in 2019, Cashmere Circle uses artisan techniques carried out by experts in Scotland to invisibly mend holes, remove stains and revive the natural yarns, returning cashmere to its luxurious best. They also have a range of homecare products and a recycling service, keeping beyond-repair garments out of landfill.

Invisible mending requires considerable skill and is time-consuming. Across the UK, there is a severe shortage of qualified menders to meet the demand for the repair of knitted and woven cashmere as mending techniques are highly skilled.

This prompted Cashmere Circle to create its own online mender training programme.  Their “Learn to Repair and Revive Knitted Cashmere” course teaches the art of invisible mending on knitted garments to repair and revive cashmere to a professional standard.

UKFT accredited, the mending programme is ideal for anyone who wishes to learn these skills to keep cashmere in the best possible condition. Once the training programme is completed, students can apply to become a specialist repairer for Cashmere Circle.

Co-Founder, Belinda Robertston OBE, with decades of industry experience says “Cashmere is a beautiful nature fibre and when you take good care of it can last for generations. We advocate garments for life keeping cashmere in circulation through our invisible repair and recycling services. By creating our online mender training programme, we wish to safeguard these valuable skills for future generations and at the same time create jobs in the fashion industry. We are fully committed to sustainable practices and a circular business model. The most sustainable garments are the ones we already own and our goal is to revive, repair and recycle cashmere that already exists”.

As the repair revolution picks up, Cashmere Circle is at the forefront of this important movement towards increased sustainability in the fashion and luxury sector. Committed to long-term growth and in full expansion, they are currently fundraising with their eye firmly on the future.
